When I was young went camping a lot with my parents in the Blue Ridge Mountains and my dad took my little brothers as they were in Scouts, so we did a lot of the foil packet cooking and of course the Roasted Marshmallows. The gear depended on where we went. We had the coleman stove even if we did the fire pit..came in handy if we needed it. |

I would often go for extended hikes and had to spend the money on quality freeze dried foods as well as jerky, trail mix, oats, etc. I'd set up my Peak 1 stove with my oats and and dried fruits before I crawled into my bag so I could just roll over and fire it up in the morning. That way I could have my tea or coffee and breakfast with out even getting out of the bag. Nice to watch the sun rise over the lakes from your bivvy while having a steaming cup of joe. |

I don't camp, I prefer room service. :) |

I too bring along quality freeze dried products or make my own. My son and I used it recently (last summer) on a trip along the Superior Hiking Trail shta.org [shta.org] When we started off it was 95 degrees F. That is too hot to hike by the way.
5: I love cooking with a dutch oven and cast iron skillet. Especially a well seasoned one. The boy scouts of america have a great dutch oven cooking recipe collection. scoutorama.com/recipe/ [scoutorama.com/recipe/] |
